Old Alamo Lutheran Church

Across the street from the school sat the old Lutheran church. At some point it was moved to Williston and now sits just south of the drive-in theater. I don't have many pictures of the interior, but this one taken at Shirley and my wedding gives some flavor. It seems smaller than I remember. I assume all the furnishings, alter, pews, etc., were moved to the new church? I'm sure many of us can remember the many church suppers, etc. While I wasn't big on the lutefisk, the lefse, mashed potatoes, meat balls, and gravy were 'to die for'.

At some point, there were at least two churches in town. I vaguely remember the other one but have no pictures. Anyone out there have any? When the structure was torn down, the basement was covered and, for a while, was used as a youth center (no doubt to keep troubled youth off the street. I don't remember what that looked like. Anyone care to share some memories?

Persons pictured include David Sogard, Loring Johnson, and Steven Holgerson, Shirley's sisters Diane, Marjory, and Barb, and two of my three sisters, Jane, and Gloria.

Looks like Diane Monger on the left. Boy...I surely do not remember the church at all when I see this picture! It really was small! I do remember the wedding and how embarrassed I was as we were still waiting on the draft and had no money whatsoever so I sewed my dress...first ever and it was so crooked it was terrible! HA! I felt like wearing a tablecloth! David has not changed much...except for the hair. Shirly either! Nice picture David...glad you posted it...now for trivia...why were all church basements spearmint green in color?? Because that color was the only color in large premixed tubs besides white...so schools, churches and hospitals all used the same paint! Remember the hospital walls were that color? So was the gym and cafeteria...I learned that some years ago...found it interesting that mint green would be the color to premix for everything! HA!

Shirley's older sister Diane was her Maid of Honor (I think that's who you are asking about).

There was no indoor plumbing - so I assume the outhouse in back was still in-service. Looks like it would have been a bit cool on the day this picture was taken (which was probably in the early to mid- 1960's).

David, You must have added some pictures...I am howling! That dress was the first thing I ever sewed as we were so poor and I needed something to wear. Gloria is 35 years old there??? Is that right? If that is Diane, I do not remember her having such long hair...and I surely do not remember some of the decorations on the walls! HA! Terrific!
